South East Regional Meeting and Legal Update Seminar
Facilitator: Julia Thomas (Director of Legal Services NYAS)
A mixture of presentation, case studies, group work and question and answer session to cover:
1. A review of the legal duties of local authorities to accommodate young people under s20 Children Act 1989 and the interaction of that duty with other duties e.g. housing and education. To include a discussion on the impact of the Supreme Court decision in R v Southwark, and the new statutory guidance.
2. An analysis of the leaving care duties of local authorities following the issue of the new statutory guidance on transition.
3. An overview of the current and proposed appeal rights of young people in the education context (exclusion, SEN and admissions).
4. An overview of Pathway Planning and Local Authoritity responsibilities.
Bring your own lunch, refreshments will be provided.
